RILS conducts specialized workshops
in association with RLS that impart technical know-how
on global best practices in various domains of life
sciences. In 2006 and 2007, RILS conducted workshops
on 'Human Embryonic Stem (hES) Cell Culture and Propagation
Techniques'. During this intensive, five-day training
workshop, participants received classroom and hands-on
training on:
Derivation, expansion and freezing of mouse embryonic fibroblasts (MEFs), as feeders for hES cell culture
Propagation, maintenance and cryopreservation of hES colonies
Characterization of hES cells by immunocytochemical and RT-PCR analysis of pluripotent markers
In-vitro differentiation of hES cells into embryoid bodies
RILS also conducted a workshop in association with
RLS on Genetic Counseling in December 2006 to train
participants on providing relevant genetic information
to patients and their family members facing risks of
inheriting genetically inherited diseases. This two-week
comprehensive course provided training in complex science
of medical genetics, as well as in counseling skills.
The course covered various aspects of human genetically
inherited diseases, testing and methodology, besides
facilitating an understanding of the psychological and
social aspects of counseling.
